The name Dog Park is a misnomer because a dog park is as much if not more for people then it is for their companion animals.
Brenham has been recognized for its park system. It has several general use parks and it also has parks that are dedicated to specific use. Brenham parks provide for skateboarding, baseball, softball, football, fishing, horseshoe, volleyball, disc golf course, soccer, tennis, and swimming. However, there is no park that is suitable for off leash animals. Washington County has a population of 32,893 persons or approximately 12,500 households. Thirty-seven point two percent (37.2%) of households have an average of 1.7 dogs per household. Therefore, Washington County alone has approximately eight thousand dogs. While this area is still considered rural, this does not mean that there are safe areas for many of the animals that reside here. And Brenham itself is suburban in character.
